Stay out of spam: SPF, DKIM and DMARC, plainly
When your mail lands in spam, the cause is almost never what you wrote — it's three missing records in your domain's DNS. This page gets you to understand those three once, then hand the job to the system.
Three records, three sentences
- SPF: the list saying “THESE servers are allowed to send mail as me.” Mail from a server not on the list looks suspicious.
- DKIM: an invisible seal stamped on every mail. The receiving server checks the seal to confirm the mail wasn't altered in transit and really came from you.
- DMARC: your instruction for “what to do with mail that fails SPF/DKIM” (reject it, spam-folder it, report it). Without it, impersonating your domain is easier and Gmail/Outlook trust you less.
The Deliverability page: see what's missing
- Open the Deliverability page in the panel — the system audits your domain's SPF, DMARC, and MX records.
- Anything missing or wrong shows up green/red, and for every gap you get THE EXACT RECORD to add, ready to copy.
- Adding records by hand? Just copy-paste the given values into your domain provider's DNS panel, verbatim.
One click: Fix automatically (Pro)
- If your domain is connected through Cloudflare (see /docs/cloudflare-setup), there's nothing to type.
- Press Fix automatically on the Deliverability page — the system writes the missing records for you, with the right values.
- Refresh the page after a few minutes; the audit turns green.
The system remembers even when you forget
- Every day, in the background, the system re-audits the records of all your inboxes.
- If a record breaks (a provider change, an accidental delete, an expired service…), it emails you — you learn about the problem before your customers notice.
- For forwarded inboxes (Gmail/Outlook), a broken forwarding chain is covered by the same monitoring.
The real test: Run health check
- Correct records are half the job — the other half is the chain working end to end.
- Press Run health check on the Deliverability page: the system sends a REAL probe email to your inbox and traces the whole chain until it becomes a notification.
- The result appears step by step: was the mail received, how fast, did the notification go out. Run it once after setup and after any significant change.
Situations we see often
Records are all green, but my mail still hits spam
Correct DNS is necessary but reputation is earned over time — a fresh domain's first mails can land in spam with some recipients. Keep sending at a normal volume; ask recipients to add you to contacts or mark “not spam”. It settles within a few weeks. Use the health check to confirm the chain itself works.
I don't see the Fix automatically button
Two requirements: the domain is managed through the Cloudflare connection, and you're on Pro (or above). If Cloudflare is connected but the button is missing, check your plan at /pricing; if the Cloudflare connection dropped, refresh it with Reconnect on the Inboxes page.
I already have an SPF record, yet the system warns me
A domain may have only ONE SPF record; adding a second invalidates both. Instead of adding the given value as a new record, merge it into your existing SPF record (as an include) — the Deliverability page shows the correctly merged version.
The health check failed — now what?
The result screen tells you where the chain broke: a missing record — fix it with the steps on this page; broken forwarding — go back to the relevant guide (/docs/gmail-forwarding or /docs/outlook-forwarding); a changed IMAP password — re-enter it on the inbox's page.
Daily monitoring is included in every plan; Fix automatically is a Pro feature — compare at /pricing. All guides: /docs
